This is a nonillustration topic, but I thought it was a really neat concept. Ever wondered what to do when you only have a few items to get rid of but not enough for a garage sale? Well, check out www.freecycle.org. You maybe surprised to see how many folks in your area are participating. The concept is that you join your regional group via yahoo, and then as a good will jester you list an item that you are trying to get rid of. Then the members of the group have the option to take it and pick it up. In turn they list items and you can take them as well. Nice way to get rid of the old, and avoid filling those landfills. Only advice, is that you want to avoid having folks pickup items from your home, just never know. Check it out.

I had signed up a few months back for both the Montreal and Corpus Freecycle. Very active group in both places (particularly Montreal). I've yet to participate in giving or getting, but I think it's a terrific idea!
Just curious but how does someone pick something up if not come to your house? I've seen people write that they'll leave it out on the driveway or curb, so some sort of location has to be given.

I haven't participated yet either, but I am itching to go through some of my stuff to see what I can freecycle. I surprised how often folks in my region participate. In my area, recycling is not offered by the city, so I agree great way to get rid of the old and make it new for someone else. I get sometimes up to 30 emails a day from members.
I've heard some people will meet in a public area for pick ups. Give each other descriptions. For the heavier stuff, I guess the curb side is the best option.
I've given stuff on freecycle and picked up, always at people's places. Never encountered a problem , folks were great ! I've also left stuff on the balcony so you don't have to meet people !
